CYRUS was built in Salem, and owned by a Frenchman, and was engaged in whale fishery when it was captured in Delagoa Bay by the English Ship of war Scorpion. Captain Archelaus Hammond  sailed CYRUS from Dunquerque.  Archeleus Hammond built his home here at 66 Centre Street in 1806. As a First Mate in 1788, Hammond was the first man from Nantucket to harpoon a whale in the PACIFIC ocean.
